I currently own This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About, The Lonesome Crowded West, Moon & Antarctica, Good News For People Who Love Bad News, and the Everywhere & His Nasty Parlour Tricks EP.
My question is, are the lesser known releases worth buying? Like Sad Sappy Sucker, The Fruit That Ate Itself, Building Something out of Nothing? Is there any reason to get them besides for completion's sake?

Sat, July 10, 2004 - 2:09 PMSad Sappy Sucker is OK. I haven't listened to it in years and just listened to it the other day. It does have some gems on it, like Birds Vs. Worms and Duke's Up, but for the most part it's interesting to listen to just to gauge the direction they've gone in. They were just babies when they made that album.
I really recommend Interstate 8, although I think it's kind of hard to come by. It has live recordings on it, too. -

Re: The Other Modest Mouse Releases
Tue, August 24, 2004 - 7:42 PMmy first modest album was 'building nothing out of something' and 'long drive'. i bought them both before 'moon&antartica' came out. both incredible albums. 'all night diner' is one of my favorite songs. though, long drive is probably still my favorite out of all the albums i currently own though.
i recently picked up the latest one and found and won 'interstate 8' on an auction site, so that one will be added to my collection soon. upon listening to 'sad sappy sucker', some of the 30 second songs reminded me of when my little brother would make up songs on the spot when we were young. either the album is pretty lo-fi (duh.) and an interesting start to a great musical career and/or my brother is an idiot for going into accounting.... -

Mon, August 30, 2004 - 6:41 PMi recently found and purchased interstate 8. very hard to find due to it being out of print. wonder why they aren't pressing any more.... anyway, the guy who sold it to me said he recently sold "lonesome crowded west" to someone for 100 bucks... that's crazy when you can just go to up records dot com and order it for 10. -

Mon, August 30, 2004 - 10:15 PMYeah, it's probably the first "pressing".
I had 2 Interstate 8's due to living with a bf and at the time we were going to sell one on E-bay, due to them going for like $85, but we didn't. Too good to sell. Also, we eventually broke up so I'm glad we each got to keep one. -
